with every place having around 5 to 6 major retailers.do u think the consumer actually has enough money power to satisfy all the retailers, the business itself being a low margin, big volume type.metros and places skirting them have loads of malls and if one goes to any branded outlet in mall there is always a huge discount on items.well that certainly sums up the retail story for me.it might be booming but will it be sustained?

Will it sustain ??? It completely depends upon the strategy, ploy, tactics used to position the STORE. When walmart, carrefour, ahold and back in India Big bazzar can do it...every one can do it.Positioning holds the key, there might be innumerable stores but the urge to shop never stops. In India 36% of our shopping is on clothing and apparel and it is expected to double by 2010. So, lets shop shop until we drop.

Thought I would get few numbers on my side.not alarming but certainly indicative.I recently read in Business Standard that in the west the growth in sales start declining in three years and stabilizes.taking the case of Big Bazaar itself,it has witnessed sluggish sales this year.Sales growth of only 3.6% as compared to 29%in jan 07.whats more?even the festival sales during oct dropped by 25%.Are we already dropping?Shopping is expected to double by 2010.But is India an exception? Is retail an exception?I dont have enough numbers on my side,i believe that it certainly is a booming sector but I certainly feel that the picture is not all that rosy as its being painted.
